crossfire question

Compequip

I have a comp. I build last year and was thinking of adding another GPU. My question is this I have a asus p5k mobo and a asus 4870 gpu with 512mb and I'm unable to find the exact model, dunno why. So can I get another 4870 gpu by asus or another manufacturer with the same 512 or 1 gb and crossfire or is this not suggested. I'll try and find the exact mobo I bought last year and post, I bought it from newegg so maybe I can pull up past invoices?

if the mobo supports crossfire, another of the same graphics card, no matter the manufacturer, should be able to work in crossfire

if you want to add a second card via crossfire, you'll have to get another 512mb card. If you really want 1gb, than you'll have to upgrade them both

Cool, now does it matter between the 512 mb vs 1 gb on the card?

You can mix memory in CrossFire arrays. I run a 512 and a 1GB together.

remember that crossfire won't let you use all 1024mb of that card, it will scale the 1gb card down to 512mb to match the other, so you should try to match the memory

Correct. I bought the 1gb because if/when I upgrade video, I'll keep the 1gb for my second computer and sell or give away the 512.
