Using Gmail as an email client

Hey guys, its been a long time. I've been off at college for the past year and haven't really stopped by here. Its nice to be back :)

Anyway, I've got a little problemo...

My dad has his own business and he owns a small website and email address. The email service is called Horde I think.

What he wants to do is have all of his email routed from his personal email to Gmail (because the user interface of Horde just sucks). And, if possible, he'd like to be able to send mail with gmail, but have it show up as from his personal address/domain. Bottom line: he wants to use Gmail, but keep his address. What options do we have?

Thanks!

You can do exactly that as long as the other email service supports POP3. Just go into Gmail then go to Settings then go to Accounts. From then on it's fairly straight forward.

If Horde doesn't support POP3 Horde might allow you to forward all your maili to Gmail. I'm not sure though I've never used it. Then you can go to Gmail then Settings then Accounts and add another address under the "Send mail as:" section.

If neither of this works I'm not sure what you can do.Hope this helps.

Oh and welcome back.

Ok, I got it to work with POP3 like you said. Thanks a bunch!

Only problem: a couple of the messages aren't being forwarded. Like two or three out of twenty since I made the switch. Why is that?

That's strange. How recent are they? Gmail only checks for new messages every hour but you can manually check by going back to the accounts page in settings and click "check mail now"

Also could they be in the spam folder?
