Personally id go with the 4890's, much better singlecards, and gpu's dont really scale well for gaming once you have 4 gpu's, well, they do, but not nearly as much as two cards. Also, it really depends if its for benching or gaming, quadfire would be better for benching, 4890's for gaming.

well i done some reasearch and the 4850's only scale well in tri crossfire and i would have to buy a single 4850 and a 4850x2 so its not worth it

its like a step back and i dont think it would be much of a balance in my pc!

the volt mod 4890's sound nice, for extreme overclcoking-should be a monster once i get the cpu up to 3.8ghz ish and bump up the 4890's

lets see what it benches like :)

im relying on my asus mobo selling to get one card then i have to upgrade psu and buy another 4890

Yah big time I do not recommend the 4850x2. I have first hand expierence with them and for what ever reason they were duds. They couldnt run any game. I even rma both got new ones same issue. if you research others have had the same issue.

really? i had dual 4850's in crossfire and it would play everything

had a few heat issues but a little increase in the fan speed to %55 problem solved
there have been some issues with the 4850x2's acting like independant cards vs in crossfire. iirc drivers fixed that though.

we established that the 4th gpu core made no difference, in some aspects trifire runs better than quadfire!

2 4890's are the way forward
