Would I be able to run Windows Vista Home Premium?

Hey there :)

I have a Packard Bell laptop, which is currently about three years old.

I am looking to upgrade to Vista Home Premium, but I'd like to know whether my laptop could handle it, before I buy it.

Here are its specs (quoted from "system"):

Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 420 @ 1.60 GHz 1.60GHz
Memory (RAM): 2.00GB

Now, my graphics card is a tricky one. "Apparently", my graphics card is an "ATI Radeon Xpress 200M series", which I believe is equivalent to Nvidia Geforce 2000.

My question is: Which my current spec's, will I be able to run Vista Home Premium, and how well will it run? Fast? Slow, or just right?

Any feedback is VERY much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jo

Hey!
No, you will not be able to run Vista. Your processor is too old, your memory would be OK though, and your graphics card would probably lag a lot too.. Vista is a resource hog and I wouldn't recommend it for you.. Sorry bud!

I would recommend you waiting until the new Windows 7 comes out (October 22nd, 2009) If you're going to buy a new Operating System, HOWEVER, your processor will lag a lot, and like I said, so will your graphics card (I'm not completely sure your graphics card could handle it, anyway. I doubt it). So you might just be stuck with the OS you're running right now, unless you will consider upgrading to a new computer.

The requirements for Windows 7 is:
# 1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
# 1GB of main memory
# 16GB of available disk space
# Support for DX9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)
# A DVD-R/W drive

According to the information you've given, Vista should run just fine,
as long as the 200M integrated graphics has at least 32MB of memory.

Although with your slower processor, you may not have the best experience.

Vista System requirements:

Home Basic
  1. 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  2. 512 MB of system memory
  3. 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  4. Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory

Home Premium / Business / Ultimate

  1. 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  2. 1 GB of system memory
  3. 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  4. Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
  • WDDM Driver
  • 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
  • Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
  • 32 bits per pixel

Best way to make sure is to download the Vista Upgrade Advisor here:

Check out the upgrade advisor as Bodaggit23 suggested. Why do you want to upgrade to vista anyway?

what aviation_man said is not true..it will run,But how well is questionable.

It should run okay, you have enough ram, processor is a little on the slow side but still ram is more important for Vista.

The graphics chipset in the laptop may not be able to handle Aero though, thats the see through windows.
but i realy dont think there will be any problems.
