Right, if it worked until the log in screen, it doesn't sound like it's fried. Sounds more like a video driver issue that could be caused by the computer suddenly shutting down.

so now it doesn't work at all on boot up? are there any signs of life in it at all?

yes it do, viewsonic screen comes on, boot stuff, then velocity micro thing comes up, then it goes off, this is when the login comes up. well the power button light goes from the blue on light, to the orange-yellow stand by/off light.

nope the PC is still on and working, it's just monitor that goes off at the log-in point.

Try reinstalling the video drivers. Boot to safe mode to see if the monitor works all the time, if it does, then there is something wrong with the video driver. There is a possibility that something got fried on the video card when the power came back on.

when your pc starts to boot press delete button until you enter bios-leave it there and see if the monitor switches off!

if it still does then something is wrong with the monitor, might be when it warms up to a certain temp it switches off!

That very well could be the problem.

Marquita,
Repairs for monitors are very expensive. Unless you really like this monitor, my suggestion would be to purchase a new one. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks,

I would probably just get a new monitor, he is right, they are expensive to repair. You would probably spend less just to buy a new one.

What kind of connection are you using with this display? If you are using DVI and all your other displays are VGA that could very well be the problem.

My guess would be that at the log in point, it would be changing to a resolution that is not supported by that particular monitor. Because the monitor works up until that point, I highly doubt that anything is wrong with the monitor itsself. Like someone else said, try booting into safe mode. I am willing to bet the monitor will work in safe mode, which would indicate that it is a video driver problem. Just confirm this for us, we would be able to assist you in fixing the problem.

Here is how you boot into safe mode:

Have you booted to safe mode? Does the monitor stay on after getting into safe mode? Give it like 30 minutes and see if it is still on, if it is then its a driver issue, resolution issue or refresh rate.

OK i just used the monitor with my other PC, it works so i guess it is the video card..... and when i wiggle the dvi cable, it would come on, but it's like it stuck on VGA quality..
