hey, does anyone know whether there is a way to change the file format of a video (eg avi to mpeg)??

and if so is there any software that could do this?

Lots of software can do this - even Flash to some extent. Your best bet id to google for a shareware utility for the specific formats you want to convert.

QuEnc and TMPGEnc both do not produce watermarks on the 'free' versions. CinemaCraft Encoder will, and some others.

Of the two I would recommend TMPGEnc because QuEnc requires an avisynth script file for input.

However, free, TMPGEnc will only encode to MPEG-1 indefinitely, encoding to MPEG-2 is free for ~30 days but a 'premium' function.
