Laptop Chargers - HOT!!!

Im sure its normal, i have a Acer Aspire 8930G, and the charger states "Caution, may become hot". But why do they get SOOO hot, becuase it really is SUPER hot!!

1. Is it really safe?
2. Why do they get this hot?
3. What is the purpose of the little black box thing on laptop chargers that become so hot?

They get this hot because of all the electricity running through them!

The purpose of the "black box thing" is to 'transform' the power from the wall outlet into something your laptop can use. It's the same as those big power bricks where it goes over the socket next to it as well.

They're safe but be careful with it and don't leave it lying next to a heater or anything when it's in use.

They get hot because a percentage of power coming in from your AC outlet is being transformed into heat during the process. How hot is yours getting? My dads Acer powerbrick gets hot enough that it's uncomfortable to the touch after a few seconds.
