I need some help! I just acquired a computer from a friend who smoked and I was wondering if there was any secrets to cleaning it out and getting that smoker/burnt dust smell out of it? Any help or ideas would be great!
Thanks!

Take it outside...get a can of condensed air and clean out the fans/power supply etc of the dust and smoke.

Take some Windex put some on a rag and wipe the outside of the case down really good.

Thanks for the help and ideas! I'm going to blast the snot out of it with air and maybe even dunk it in a bath of Febreeze. I wonder if I attached a car air freshener to the fan if that would help? Jk-ing.
Thanks again!

I am not sure if this is going to be enough. A little bit ago I lived with someone who smoked in his house, and when I moved out just about everything I owned had that smell. What I had to do was take a few drier sheets and threw them into a box with my computer, TV etc. for a few days. Now every time I watch T.V it smells like I am doing laundry. Just kidding on the last part, but it might help take away the smell.

For clearing it out:
When I was working at a local repair store we just used an air compressor set to low out psi and lever handle nozzle. really no big deal. A customer brought in their shuttle that would not boot. It was caked with smoke residue, thick globs of dark brown you could pickup. after a good blowing and some other cleanings it booted. $99 advanced hardware testing.

dont smoke kids.

For smell:
Their computer smelt less bad...no clue how to get rid of the smell. maybe alcohol it?

maybe some distilled water? it's not electrically conductive but you'll have to let it dry.

Thanks for the suggestions and help!

I actually took the processor, graphics card, and ram out of the computer and used it in my computer, (after a thorough cleaning) which is exactly the same model, but one year older. Everything is seems to be working and is stable and does not stink… ha ha ha. Now it’s time to work on some cooling and noise reduction issue.

Thanks again!
