Gradually Dying Computer

My computer, throughout the years, has performed very well, as hasn't crashed too much. However, recently there have been some problems:-
---------------------------------------------

Firstly, the tower has been making a sort of roaring sound, as if it's tired.

Secondly, and more frequently by the week, the tower has occasionally been making a 5 second long noise of a tick and then a hiss, which is followed by a momentary freez of the computer.

Thirdly, and also more frequently by the week, the tower has occasionally been making a constant jamming sound (as in the jam of cogs, not as in the food) as though the hard drive were jamming.

Forthly, after the tower has made these noises, it crashes, and a blue screen apears, mentioning the fact that if it's not the first time that it has happened, I should call for assistance, and mentioning the fact that it is preparing the dump of data.

Fifthly, over the last two days, the computer has taken absolutely ages to load up Windows XP.

----------------------------------------------
Please could someone guide me as to what the possible causes of these problems are, and also let me know of the risks that exist.

Thank you very much in advance.

Harry Evans.

Most likely you have a bad hard drive. Download the drive makers disk diagnositc utility and scan the drive and see what the results are.

Could be fan or HD as mentioned, but I'm leaning more towards the hard drive since you're getting errors along with the noises. If you don't know the brand of your drive, download something like PC Wizard and it'll tell you... Or just open the case ;)

I have a Maxtor hard drive.
www.tacktech.com's 'Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities' has three diagnostic performing utilities for Maxtor, but none of them work on my computer: two of them are just command line files that only contain terms and conditions, and the other is an 'I don't know what' because it gives me an error message that is something along the lines of "Can't read hard drive".
Something that I didn't mention before is that on one of the occasions that the blue screen appeared (a while ago), "Kernal" was mentioned, which I associate with Linux, and I had installed Ubuntu (a version of linux) on to the computer. When I load up the computer, I always get an option of booting into Ubuntu or Windows, I haven't partitioned yet, and don't use Ubuntu.

And you probably won't get any more reply's with the childish like attitude you have right now.

Yeah, but the people helping me could have at least told me that I wasn't going to be helped anymore instead of just ignoring me. I understand that this company is extremely busy, but what do you expect me to do when I'm just ignored, because last time there was no reply, there was forever no reply.

We don't get paid for helping here at the forum. Most people do have jobs they work, I have 3 jobs. Not every question asked here at the forum get answered. For instance, click on search up top and then click on advanced search. Under search options change the setting under "find threads with" to at most 0 replies and see how many questions never get answered. And beside I would rather not respond if I didn't know the answer instead of posting saying "I have no clue, hope you can figure it out". That doesme and you no good. So don't be taking it out on people here. If someone has an answer for you, they will respond. And don't be creating more than thread about the same issue (not saying you have, but others have done it).

So my suggestion to you is RELAX.

And I'm not being childish. A child would type giberish.

Dude, you posted 10 times in 2 minutes, thats childish. ONE post to bump your thread would've sufficed.

Btw, a Kernal is in all operating system's.
