Hahahahahahahahaha

haha

Okay, I found a few good 3G tutorial videos at youtube. I haven't found a specific tutorial for the 3GS, but apparently the procedure is the same. Bomber, thanks for the ebay link. That guy has a ton of good feedback for that kit, but I'm gonna pay the extra 5 bucks and get this set. I'm gonna go ahead and do this myself.

Thanks for the votes and the feedback guys. ;)

Sorry, but I just thought of all the dumb crap I have done in my life, but I never once threw away my iPhone. I once watched my skateboard get run over by a car. Had to watch it happen too, nothing I could have done.

I voted for replace it yourself. If you mess up, you can put your screen back on and still take it to shop. Oh, it looks like the drop also caused hardware failure several days later. Which technically, could very well happen.

Yeah, plus my wife is terrible with electronics. I mean, I feel stupid for breaking the screen because I never bought one of those protective cases. Maybe it would have cracked anyway, but after I repair the phone I'm gonna get some type of protection. Do you have a protective case for your phone? Anything you would recommend? Throwing away the phone... lol, that's only something she would do. :p

It doesn't appear to be that difficult. A bit time consuming, but not a whole lot of parts to remove and sensitive areas to mess with. I dunno, we'll see.

I use a rubber case I got at the Apple store for my iPhone. $30 for a piece of $1 rubber

I haven't dropped mine yet though. I do toss mine on my bed or on my chair sometimes when I am at home. A very light toss, but a toss none the less. Never had a problem.

The hardest part imo is cutting the adhesive strips to put the new glass back on hehe. I like those thicker rubber skins for them, the kind that have that "lip" around the screen that stops the glass from hitting a hard surface that is flat.

I have a touch. I would suggest you get a rubber case. I mean , i have a plastic one, and yea, my pod has survived some pretty nasty tosses and falls (where the plastic case just opens itself), but rubber seems like it will be much more comfortable.

You have PLENTY of covers to chose from. If i were you, i would go to frys, and like they have them spread out all over the aisle, just try them on and choose what you like.

hahah. Cool, that's encouraging. I got the shipping notification a couple hours ago, so it should be here early next week. I paid for priority shipping. I'll hit you up if I have any probs.

Some guy at hard forum recommended this one...

Expensive, maybe even a bit overkill, but it looks like it would def do the job.

I read where somones iphone got ran over by three semi trucks with that case on it, the screen got cracked and had to be replaced but the phone was working fine.
Bomber, what method do you use to remove the old adhesive from the frame?
I was referring to how you have to cut out the adhesive to fit around the button and whatnot on some kits saying it was "hard". To take the front off the frame though, i recommend heating it up to loosen the adhesive. There are multiple methods out there, just need to find which works best for you.

Edit: And when i say heat, i really mean heat. Your going to want a heat gun, hair dryers top out at less than 200f, while my heatgun has 700f and 1500f settings.

Right, I understand that. You need a clean surface to apply the new adhesive, right? so what do you usually do? I imagine myself scraping the heavy stuff off and using some alcohol for the rest, but I wanted to know your method.

Ah, I was gonna use my wife's hair dryer. lol.

Alcohol works ok, but your gonna want 91 or 99% isopropyl(the stronger rubbing alcohol). I actually use the first stage of arcticlean believe it or not, that stuff works very well on it as does that yellow goo gone stuff, then just clean any residue with alcohol.

bomber, I didn't pick up the heat gun. I'm gonna try my wife's hairdryer. If that doesn't work, I'll go to lowe's and pickup a heat gun.

Overall, I'm happy with the finished product. At first, there were some issues with internet browsing (some of the touch functions didn't work correctly), so I removed the phone from the casing and reattached the #2 cable, it was loose. There's a tiny fingerprint visible on the other side of the glass, but that's only noticeable when the screen is off. The quality of the glass appears to be on par with Apple's, though there are some minor differences, none really worth mentioning.

It took me about 3 hours and I saved around 80 bucks doing it myself. I'd do it again if I had to.
