Gaming card under $100

I am looking to upgrade my brother's video card. He likes to play games but he only has a Geforce 8500.

He has a micro atx case so the card needs to fit in side.

What card would be the best for under $100?

One of the game that he plays is assassins creed and the 8500 can't even handle it on low settings. The game will play but the game will move kinda slow.

thanks for the help

As a owner of GTS 250 I can tell you that it does play most games better than 4850. 3/4 of the games are designed for nVidia, for example, BIA HH plays twice as good on GTS than 4850, I know that, I've been using both.

Thanks guys. I have these cards bookmarked. My brother is not in a hurry for the upgrade so I am going to wait and maybe I will catch a free shipping or price drop. ^^

Are there any card that have noticeable performance increase over the GTS 250 with few more dollars?

4870 or GTX 260 The 5750/5770 not really a good deal right now (to high and doesnt perform as good as the 4850/4870) unless your just dying for DirectX 11. After that it jumps to the 4890/GTX 275

Keep in mind guys that only the first reply is going to work. He has a micro ATX, can't fit in regular cards. Make sure to read the actual post.

you can do anything if you put your mind to it

besides that, a GTS 250 is a good card for what you need (I have one and can play oblivion on max) but at 9 inches long it probably won't fit (unless you're good with a dremel)

I would look for a low profile 9800 gt. I have a friend with one (not low profile) and he plays lots of games on it at max or near max graphics
