Building Gaming PC

Normally I would just read around to find out what I'm really looking for, BUT sadly I've been out of the game for too long and have no time to really research.

Soo... What I really need help with is:

CPU: AMD or Intel type & Dual Core ~ Best gaming CPU AMD or Intel has to deal with Gaming (Even tho I'm aware gaming is more influenced by GPU & RAM.. i think)

Motherboard: Something I can use for a looong time. Including that sli function I'm not really up to date with it. Should have option for 2 GPU's (sli no?) Obviously compatible with the CPU.

GPU: A GPU that can be connected to another GPU, preferably higher than 256mb. Not EXTREMELY expensive, I think 512mb will be fine. Let me know a good 256mb GPU to use sli & same for a 512mb GPU.

RAM: To go with the CPU or GPU or whatever it needs to be compatible with the previous components. (I have no clue about what types of RAM's there are, I just know the size of em).

PSU: Should keep the top components running without a problem, (preferably a PSU to keep 2 GPU's running plus the other components)

That's all I'm looking for, I know I'm not the best at describing what I need specifically but in case of any doubts or anything at all just send me a PM or post here what I should clarify.

The end result I'm looking for is a gaming computer capable, fast & efficient.

Idk if this is clear, I'm not the knowledgeable person I used to be back in the days.

I wont be able to help you with that really but the other guys will probably ask you for those things:

1. Where are you located? (it's for the store they are going to pick the parts from)
2. What's your budget?
3. What games do you want to be able to play on it?

1. I'm currently living in Mexico, too bad I'm not in Canada anymore. So Newegg is not a choice I guess.

2. Nothing that exceeds $2,000.

3. COD4, BF2, some MMORPG's, Crysis, NFS series, Diablo Series, WoW series & looking forward to playing more FPS games.

Please I need some help here, I want to get this PC done before new year for a gift. I can get the stuff from newegg.com and ship it to my brother in the US so that's not a problem.

I am a bit offline with the current technology (my last computer was build 3 yrs ago). But I am starting to learn more.

Intel i7 960 for best performance, i7 920 is a good choice if you choose a X58 MB. i5 is cheaper and you get a P55. I prefer Intel, but word is you can get better bang for your buck with AMD.

MB: Several, look for a X58 (i7) or P55 (for i5) with 16x16x8 Sli (one day you may want tri-sli?), DDR3 1600. A great choice is EVGA X58 SLI 132-BL-E758-A1.

RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C9

PSU: Rosewill BRONZE series RBR1000-M, Antec TPQ-1200 KINGWIN Mach 1 ABT-1000MA1S and OCZ Z Series Gold OCZZ1000.

I am also looking for the best config. please see my link here: http://www.computerforum.com/166049-best-high-end-january.html

Regards!

The i7 960 is a waste of money, just go with the 920 and OC it.

Rosewill PSU's are rubbish, if you going to put over $1000 into a computer get a decent power supply that can handle it, and I wouldn't go multi-GPU on a Rosewill

It's not a waste at all, everyone overclocks there 920 to be the same as a a little faster then the 960 when really the 960 overclocks even more.

Hello thanks for this nice list. A couple of things, I would rather get a dual core CPU, preferably 4gigs of RAM idk if 6GB is really necessary. Also is the GPU sli capable?

The GPU is not from Nvidia, so no it can't SLi. It's from ATI so what you'll be able to do with it is CrossFireX. It's basically the same as SLI, just from a different company.

If you have a budget of $2000, then why would you rather get a dual core ?

Exactly. If you have a $2,000 budget get the 920.. there is no reason not to, and your build will be future proof if you don't want to upgrade it for a few years.

If you get a dual core, you will end up replacing it in the near near future. Im an Nvidia fan and that's for SLI but ATI is a great brand and Crossfire is the same thing (linking GPUs together for improved graphics).

Good luck:D

The CPU I listed is a Quad Core (4 cores) that will Hyperthread, which turns each core into 2 virtual cores (8 cores).

You'd like 2 instead of 8?

That motherboard with the X58 chipset runs Triple Channel memory, which requires sticks in multiples of 3. (3x1Gigs, 3x2Gigs, etc.)

SLI is an nVidia brand name for linking two or more cards.

Crossfire is ATI's brand name for linking two or more cards. It's essentially the same thing.

Nice tips, but I just had a change of heart and I am going with i5 instead of i7 for my system. Perhaps you should have a look at this too (posted by 2048Megabytes):

Intel Core i5 750 Lynnfield (2.66 gigahertz) Quad-Core Processor - $200
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-215-_-Product

Here is a motherboard that will work with the Core i5 750:

GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 Motherboard - $135
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-412-_-Product

Since Rosewill is not a good psu, anyone have a tip?
