laptop with hdmi

What's the laptop. Maybe someone else has one and confirm how it works. I believe it should transmit sound though, seeing as that's one of the main features of HDMI (using one cable 
)
Now HDMI is digital audio, so perhaps you need to enable digital output, or tell your computer to convert all audio out to HDMI. Check under control panel and see if you have an icon for your sound (probably realtek). Or if you don't have this, go to sound properties under control panel and select the digital audio as your primary output.

yeah i have an HP dv5 aswell - it doesnt transmit sound through the HDMI cable either
thats because you have to tell the computer to transmit sound through hdmi. Not all computers do it automatically. Go to control panel and the sound icon, and try different defaults forgot which one it is.
