Upgrading Dell Dimension 4400

Well, I'm upgrading a Dell Dimension 8400 with a a new graphics card, some RAM, a new hard drive, and if I can find some money, a processor. It currently has a 40GB Hard Drive, 256MB of RAM, (yikes!), an ATI AGP graphics card, and a Pentium 4. I don't need a powerhouse machine, as I running Ubuntu 9.10 on it, but I need enough horsepower to get the cube going. I would prefer a nVidia graphics card, it's an IDE hard drive, and I'd like a 500GB from Western Digital, and any brand of RAM will do. As for type it is PC-2100. Well I think this is all you need so thank you!

well,
first of all, you have to make sure the video card you get fits into an AGP slot.
You may need to buy a new Powersupply for all of that new stuff because the stock one is usually pretty cheap and only just manages with the stock components.
and can you even buy 500GB IDE hard drives?

here is what i could come up with.
GPU

HDD

RAM (i'm assuming your mobo takes DDR ram so if i am wrong this ram will not work)

thats what i got for ya

wait for someone more experienced to come and give some suggestions.

Thanks for the video card. I plan on buying it soon. I'll do a bit more shopping foe the HDD. It turns out I don't need extra RAM, as I got this as a gift and apparently it was upgraded.

Thanks everyone for all you help!

Thanks! I'll probably get the 2nd one. Just one noobish question. The minimum requirements mention Windows. This is just a result of Micro$ofts illegal monopoly, and therefore will work fine in Ubuntu, right?
