Lines across screen on Dell D620

My daughter turned on her laptop this evening and across the screen are lines. There is not any logo, writing, files. The screen is one solid bluish/black in color with some lines running horizontal. Does this mean the monitor (screen) is bad. Her power supply went out last week and we bought a new one. The part numbers were not the same but the guy at the computer store said that one dell power supply fits all?

Any suggestions would be appreciated....

Does the laptop get thrown around a bit? I had this issue with a very old laptop... and i threw it around a bit... and it just went on the motherboard....

Well, then it probably the age thing, and damage on the inside.

I had an issue with a dell at one time where the motherboard had cracked and the sound card a few other things stopped working....
