Just wondering what kind of software everyone is using and what works best in your opinion? I have AVG on my laptop and Kaspersky on desktop, I have had few issues with AVG but just started Kaspersky Anti Virus
few days ago.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is perfect. Another choice is ESET NOD 32 Smart Security which is not as good as Kaspersky but it's a light program, which means it wont really cause your computer performance to delay.

i would never pay for an anti-virus most of the free ones are actually superior, id say the two best are avg 9.0 or microsoft security essentials, id give microsoft the edge as there making an anti-virus to protect a system they designed so there bound to know the weak spots better than anyone else, and i would use malwarebytes to scan your machine for malicious software, all of these are free programs, and you can get them at www.freewarefiles.com or www.cnetdownloads.com

They can't even create an OS without security holes in it, do you think they can create a decent enough virus/malware scanner? Don't think so.

For the longest time I used Avast on EVERYTHING! However, A-Squared Anti-Malware was giving out one year subscriptions for free a few months ago. I got myself two keys and installed it on my desktop and my laptop. I love it! Haven't had a single issue with it. I think it'll be worth the $49 a year!

On the other hand, Avast is pretty decent.

I have put AVG Free any many computers and i LOVE it! It does a great job and it's FREE! Add in Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and possibly Zone Alarm and you're set for just about anything.

Having experienced the Virut virus which attaches to any .exe it can get it's hands on and then trying to clean it up and save the files gave me a lot of hands-on experience. There is a philosophy out there in anti-virus land that says not to reformat, that it shows defeat in the eyes of the virus writer. Well for this virus, I was not experience enough to get around that. Up to that time I use to ignore viruses and just have a zone alarm firewall. I learned the hard way.

I used Kapersky and the Norton Virut Eliminator. Kapersky found all of the viruses on the hdd, but when deleting the viruses, it damaged the files so I had to reinstall them. Making a long story short, I now use Malwarebytes and Avira Free to find and delete. So far, my machine has been kept clean.:)

You mean XP? You're right about that, but who uses that anymore? lol :D

Microsoft Security Essentials is all I run on my 3 computers and I've never had an issue, plus it's lighter than anything out right now.

Have you ever had to help anyone on this forum from infestation that was using MSE? Don't think so.

Most of the infections I see being submitted here were running AVG at the time.

I have not seen any from MSE, however, I've seen helped people that have had AVG, AVIRA, Norton, and Mcafee on their system. Not a lot of people know about MSE though.
