Freezing on BIOS screen

Hi there. This is my first post. Lately when turning on my PC, it is freezing on the BIOS screen. It is identifying my drives but then just stops and does not start windows although this morning after numerous restarts, it did start windows but only after a long period. My system is over 3 years old and I have an Asrock motherboard with a 1.86MHZ dual core Intel chip. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. It seems to me that there may be a problem in the handover from BIOS to Windows but that's just me. I am a reasonably experienced user. I am thinking that some components may need to be replaced and any advice would be most welcome. I am leaving the PC running for the time being and will be doing a full system backup tonight. I look forward to any advice given. Thanks

I call a memory issue. try removing a stick of memory and see what happens. it happended to me when i was running 4x1GB sticks. now i run 2x2GB and i have no issues.

but my issues inlcuded booting with no video, garbled text in POST, bluescreens, hard shutdown and so on.

Thanks Linkin,

I recently (well a few months ago) added 2 sticks of 1GB memory to my machine but only 3 are recognised. 3 are 333MHZ and the other 266MHZ. The motherboard manual states that all memory sticks must be identical. Any thoughts on this. Could this be contributing to the problem? Or even causing it?

Yes it could be contributing, I would just take out any excess sticks, so you just have the two 1gb sticks and see if she boots. if not, try using one stick of memory at a time.
