I'm on my third nvidia card in the last 2 months and I'm fed up with their driver issues . The latest drivers 196.75 caused my fan speed on my card to drop rpm's hence my card is fried. Can someone recommend me an ATI card that is comparable to a GTX280 or better . I'd like to stay below 400.00 if possible.

You can go with either 5850 or 5870 models. Most of 5870 are about $410 without shipping ( shipping i think was like $8 ) but their HIS model cost $380 with free shipping. Or you can go with 5850 which is in the range from $300 to $350 from what i remember.

Are there any issues with the drivers , like it was several years ago with ATI? I 've always had Nvidia but with my last run of bad luck I'm willing to switch over to ATI. Is there one brand better than the others or are they pretty well all the same. I only play WOW and it's on a Samsung T240 24in. lcd and also have a Corsair TX750 psu which I hope will be enough for the 5870 i'm looking at. Waiting on you guys to advise before I order . I'd like to order asap so please help a poor guy out thanks.

Thank you guys for the info , so I take it that there are no driver issues with Ati cards . What brand should I go with ( XFX, HIS, Diamond etc. I'm unfamiliar with them except XFX.

ASUS! If you get an XFX get the reference one since it is probably made by ATI. Skip the XFX with the fan in the middle.

The drivers are unstable.

I would go with XFX or Sapphire.

Drivers are still faily new. Heck, the new ones cause issues for me on NFSS so I run 9.11... kinda lame. This has to hurt PC gaming that it is not just one package like an Xbox.

I've found nvidia to usually be better than ati driver wise. There are drivers for nvidia cards that arent made by nvidia that are reliable and make it perform better, I forget what the name is though.

Well stop blaming Nvidia when you're running Beta drivers.
196.21 is the current official release by Nvidia.

You seem to be having bud luck with cards, so i'd go with XFX for the double lifetime warranty :D

Ati drivers are a mixed bag, i have not had any issues since about 2007, but after multiple installs and uninstalls of various drivers, i did have to reformat to clear everything out. this is also because i went from 3870 > 4850 > 8600GT (yes lol) > 5770 and there were leftover drivers everywhere.

The best advice with upgrading Ati drivers is to launch the setup and select uninstall, then reboot after that and install the latest ones. works best!

IT is generally advisable to fully format when swapping video cards anyway because they are so damn picky, especially when going from one brand to another, never mind one series to another.

XFX make some pretty decent cards, I would probably go for one but not for the warranty, for the performance. Asus though would be my number 1 choice for getting a 5850 or 70.

ATi drivers, have never had a problem with them. Thought I have done for the past couple of months thinking it was mucking up COD4 and making PB kick me, turned out it was steam, not ATi, so still 0 faults from ATi

Ok just got off the phone with BFG and theyare replacing my card. My TX750 watt corsair psu should run that card correct or do I need to buy a bigger psu?
