Long beep when turning PC on :(

Hello,

I've just built a computer for the first time. I spent hours going through everything carefully, but when I turned it on, there was a long loud beep. I turned it off immediately, in case it is a power problem and could damage something.

I don't know where to start. I'm tempted to take it to PC World in case it gets worse with me messing around with it. Does anyone have any opinions?

FYI, the motherboard is GA-X58A-UD7.

All I've tried is removing two RAMs and putting the first in a different slot. Nothing shows up on the monitor.

have you made sure that all the wires are connected to the mobo??

i persionally think its a ram problem, but am no expert, so try taking one stick out and using the other to see if it helps.

also check your video card and make sure all the wires are connected to the mobo

lol Stupid me!!

Thanks for that answer. I didn't realised modern motherboards need to be connected to the power lol.

Well, now everything SOUNDS fine, but thers no display on the monitor. I'm about to try messing around with the monitor sockets.

Still no luck. It sounds like it's doing something though. Are you meant to use the motherboard's video card the first time you boot?

If you have a dedicated video card then you don't need to use the motherboard's onboard video. What video card do you have? Does it require a power connector from the power supply?

more than likely. ;)

The motherboard doesn't come with anything for a DVI cable

Some sites have said this motherboard comes with integrated DVI. Could that have anything to do with it? If so, what is integrated DVI?

Ignore that, the motherboard must come with no onboard graphics. Trying to work out if it should just recognise my graphics card anyway.

It doesn't have onboard video, I just checked. Double check all your connections including reseating the memory, remove all nonessential hardware not needed to boot up the computer such as any usb devices or any addin pci cards, try using only 1 stick of ram.

Thanks, I'll try that now.

Just a question though. If it sounds like its turning on, but the monitor says 'no signal', does that mean it could only be a graphics card problem? Or could it also be related to something else?

It could be anything. Thats why I'm having you do those things I listed. Trying to determine what could be wrong.

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thank you so much! I had removed the RAM before I sorted the GPU out, so didn't think to check it again. I just moved the ram to another spot and it works!!!!! I wouldn't have bothered checking the RAM again if you hadn't told me to go through everything, so thank you so much! Now I gotta install the OS :D

Should I format the HDD before, or doesn't it matter?

The install cd for the operating system will do all that for you when you install. Glad you got it all working now.
