Just bought this HDD today, wondering why is it making noises when it's reading? Is it suppose to? Or is it suppose to be silent?

How loud is it? If it is making loud ticking noises that is not normal and the drive may have been damaged during transport.

It sounds like a loading noise, you know when it reads.

All HDD's these days should be silent. Only loud and clicky ones are from a decade ago.

No hdd is gonna be dead silent, 7200.12 drives and caviar blacks both make a bit of noise, i cant hear mine due to the noise levels in my bedroom but on the other systems in the house it is a faintly noticeable noise.

Ok I be more specific. It doesn't make any noise on idle, only when I'm loading something or making the hard-drive in use abit. It sounds like a beepy loading noise. Like a scanning noise. If you know what I mean. Only makes the noise when it loads something or finding something etc.... other than that, it's quiet.

Sounds like my drive does when it's loading. Buy my drive is 6 years old. I know the noise you talk about. Hard to explain, but only does it under a load.

They do make some noise. It also depends on your case. 2 of my cases are mesh front and really dont block any noise, you can hear the HDD's when things are quite and they spin up. In a solid front case I can't hear anything.
