Can you burn a dvd using a cd-rw drive?

Ok I know it sounds rediculous to most of you but my father-in-law told me there was a program you could download to burn dvds using a cd-r burner with 52x or faster i don't know and honestly it's not something i even need but now i really wanna know if this is for real or if he's just messing with me

As far as I know there isnt. You can make a Video CD. But I dont know of any program where you can burn a DVD disk on a CD burner.

Your father in law is not correct there is no way a DVD can be burned in a CD burner. Maybe as the above poster thought he found a program to either make VCDs or burn avi's to a CD.

i figured he was just blowing hot air he thinks he's the computer god or some crap and he keeps saying stupid stuff like that but your right i think he is just thinking of video cds thanks:D

Hello NeoDude86,

You cannot burn a DVD file with a CR-R burner. There is a DVD/CD-R burner, which only reads DVD files but cannot burn DVD files. Now, regarding your question - there is no way that we can burn DVDs into a CD-R burner.

The great thing about newer burner drives is they can handle all the past "similar" media. For instance blu-ray burners can read and write blu-rays, dvd's and cd's, while dvd burners can read and write dvd's and cd's. cd burners though can only read and write cd's.

You can burn miniDVDs. They're basically DVD quality videos that can be played on most DVD players but with a CD. A single CD only has ~15 minute capacity though.
