format sd card

Windows keeps telling me that I need to format my sd card in order to use it however I have hundreds of photos on there and it works fine on my wifes laptop Is there a way around formating it so I can view the photos on my Desktop. I am running windows 7.

for me, if i were you ...i would just transfer all the photos from the sd card on to your wifes computer, stick the sd card into your pc and format it so that your windows will recognie it, and then just copy the pictures back onto the sd card

Hmm... Can you confirm the card reader works with other cards? I do agree with kdfresh09, just copying the files onto the other machine or using a USB cable would probably be the best option for now, but that is a bit odd.

Perhaps clean off the card and do a format on it and see how it works there after. Either using the camera or there are SD-Card formatting utilities out there that format to the correct specs for SD cards (not that it usually really matters all that much).

Hello childsy_1985,

All you need to do is to back up all the files that are saved on the SD Card. You can save it on your computer HDD. If it prompted you to reformat then you can do it, as long as you have already done backing up all the files in the card. What is the Operating System that your wife uses in her laptop?

Thanks,
