which would show better performance. i have the p4 listed in my signature and have an athlon 64 i think its a 3300 or it may not. im not sure.. its packed up cause we are about to move. also if it wouldn't fit in a 939 board then is got to be an am2 right? i tried it in a 939 board and it wouldn't go all the way in. kinda tetter tottered.

Its probably not a 3300, because they are 939 and they were only available to HP/IBM.

the board i tried it in was an hp board i got rid of it cause the sata part didn't work. its a 3800, so which would be a better processor. i have very low experience with the athlon 64's

guess im gonna be looking for a board. i was looking at a am2 am2+ and am3 board so i can temporarily use the 64 if need be and upgrade to a phenom am3 later using the same board.

If you want something for a decent price that you can upgrade later get the GA-MA78LM-S2H motherboard for $63 and get the following cheap processor:

AMD Athlon 64 3600+ Dual-Core Socket AM2 (1.9 Gigahertz) Processor - $32.50
http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Athlon-64-x...5572?cmd=ViewItem&pt=CPUs&hash=item2eac9bed34

The Athlon 3600+ Dual-Core would definitely be an upgrade from the Single-Core Pentium 4 Processor you have.

You could upgrade later to a Phenom II Quad-Core when the price comes down more the suggested motherboard.

DDR2 memory also works with the suggested motherboard.
