I dont know if this is the correct sub forum to post this but will try.I have had this computer for about 15 months now ,worked fine till about a month and ahalf ago.I have tried different antivirus Malawarebytes,AVg,Kapersky IS (was what I was running till problem started occuring) and Avast.I am currently running Malwarebytes and Avast.nothing seems to work.I have reinstalled OS after deleting and reformatting HD several times now.It helps for ahile but problem still comes back after a bit.It even occurs when running windows in safe mode with networking which I am running now.

The problem is when I am on the internet it will start flashing and will not let me enter text or even open up a new tab.It will also not let me retart or shutdown the computer without hitting the power button or going to task manager and shutting down there.
The problem happens from infrequent to everytime I power on computer.i am wondering if this is ome kind of cnflict and not a vrus after all this.I was hoping that it wouldnt start while I was even posting this where I would have to start all over again.

Anyone help ? thanks in advance

OC'ed???

How far have you overclocked your computer?

HJT was fine other than some adobe processes that could be stopped, no biggie.

Also that Malwarebytes database version is about old, the newest one is more like ver. 4003.

less like

This sounds less like malware and more like a setting/programming issue.

Check the screen resolution setting, is it correct for your size screen?
The screen refresh rate should be 60hz.

Have you had any BSOD's?

This is sometimes caused by video cards. I don't know your video card, thus I don't know the manufacturer or where you need to go to get a new driver.

I would recommend trying to adjust the screen settings first. But I don't think that is the cause. I think it is the video card driver, I would download the latest driver (straight from the manufacturer of the video card), then install the new driver, then see if the problem is gone.

I am betting on the drivers because you say that the OS has been reinstalled, several times. Did you ever check to see if you have any driver problems?

Hiyas...settings at 1920 x 1200 (native on my 28 " hanspree) and 60 hz ,no BSOD's yet that I havent caused myself.I am running a Nvidia GTX 295,checked Nvidia site and there was a new driver that was released 2 weeks or so ago.Problem occurred well before then but maybe your right and it will fix it.

I uninstalled old drivers and software and installed new driver successfully.Hopefully this will help.Thx aplenty for your help.Ill keep a watch on it and have fingers crossed.Ill post back again with results good or bad later on.

Thanks again.

Nice, I'm glad you uninstalled the old one first. Sometimes if your having driver problems, and a new one is installed OVER the old one, the problem will resurface. I don't know why that is.

I hope you don't have to come back for this, it sounds like a really annoying problem. Hope it works now!

An hey, if your problem was fixed by this procedure, come back an let us know, eh?

Well I spoke to soon, right beofre I logged of the net last night it started up again. Not sure what I should do.It even does it sometimes in Safe mode with networking which bypasses video drivers , correct? So I am pretty dumbfounded on what it might be if that is the case

trial and error

Like johnb said, cant hurt to scan with SAS.

Before we do any more after that, I have a quick question. Is the computer still under warranty, also consider video cards, motherboard, etc...? If they are, I would call the manufacturer and ask them about the situation before messing with anything else!

Also, is this your computer, or is it: a loaner, a work computer, a school computer, or other? If you aren't the owner, I wouldn't mess with anything. Just tell them about the problem, and let them deal with it.
----------------------------------------------------

Lets move on;

* Did you buy the computer fully built (like a Dell or other), or did you assemble it yourself?

If you assembled yourself, did you use new, used, or second-hand parts?

How old is it?

* Is the computer physically clean or dirty?

* Are you sure the that screen is ok? Try the computer with another screen and see if it stops acting weird.

Try a different cable going from the computer/graphics card to the screen. Check all the cable and the connections to make sure none are loose/damaged/dirty

* Is the video card mounted firmly to the motherboard? Any looseness or problems with the v.card to MB connection?

* When you removed and installed the drivers, specifically how did you do it? (for instance, did you disable your anti-virus protection when uninstalling/installing?

Some people recommend using 3rd party driver removal programs, I do not recommend using one! These tools can create problems, and that is not what you need right now.

* Have you checked your computer temperatures?
If not then get this and check your temps: http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

* Can you give us your full system specs? I'm beginning to wonder if you have enough power going to the video card. If you use HwMonitor, it should give you stats like voltage specs and fan speeds, along with the temps.

** There is also the possibility that it is a motherboard problem, but one thing at a time, eh!

Nice... ill try that thx fellahs

* edit....gamblingman,Computer was built by myself about late jan 09 so about 15 months old.All parts were new from Newegg and worked fine till a month or so ago,no problems at all and no BSOD's before then.

Computer is clean from dust,Havent tried it with another monitor yet ,I could try that.

I will also try another cable

video card is fully thumbscrewed in

When I unistalled and reinstalled drivers I disabled firewall but didnt disable virus protection could be problem? Uninstalled drivers from control panel > programs > Unistal programes option

* From what I see in the HWMonitor report, your temps are about normal for that v-card. That card usually runs about 50C or so idle. It can get up to about 80C under normal use. Start monitoring it during gaming and other high v-card usage to get a feeling for it.

I would also save a readout from it a few times per year, then you have comparison points if your system starts to go haywire in the future.

* Your power supply, if its working properly, is enough power for that card. If you have access to a power supply tester, then check its output. I think you can get a tester for about $40-50.

* When I replace drivers, I download everything I need. Then I turn off and unhook my internet connection. I also turn off all security measures that are in place. If I were you, I'd turn off the anti-virus program, Firewall, UAC, any system backup programs (Acronis, Norton Ghost, etc...), and anything else you can think of.

Then I install the new driver after un-installing the old one. I don't like to install over an old one, I have had driver problems from doing that.

* You could try to pull the video card out and see if it will run without, to see if the problem presents itself. But that motherboard doesn't have on-board video, so I doubt doing this would work.

There are a lot of avenues to pursue with a problem like this. So, any progress so far?

From now on Ill disable everything before DL'ing any drivers ,may help stop future problems down the road.I always heard to disable firewall never heard about virus ware ,cant be too safe I guess to make sure you get a clean install eh?...On a good note there was a missing driver for my Hannspree monitor that I DL'ed right after my last post.So far problem hasnt occured since then,I waited till now to post to see how it would work for awhile, so far no problems yet.Hopefully that got it.

Thanks so much for your help.I was completely lost without it.Ill still keep a watch on it for the next few days as well as doing alt-tab periodically to test it(for some reason alt-tabbing would set it off to it seems).Ill post back again if it happens.
