GeForce 9800 GTX+ Vs. Radeon HD 4770?

I posted a thread previously, but now I have an increased budget thus my questions :)
1. According to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
[strike]The 4770 outperforms the Nvidia card[/strike], but not by
anything significant I think... I am having ambivalent
feelings & I need help deciding between the two for
this particular build (Budget gaming/school). Which is better?
2. Will my build be sufficient to play recent games
(at a fast stable fps with mid-high settings/resolution)?

Thanks a lot.

Which card you want depends on your budget. The 9800GTX+ is about $20 more expensive, but for that, is better.

As for playing games, your build will be fine. I play most games mid-high settings with 1600x900 (max for monitor) with id say 40+ FPS. My rig specs are in my sig.

If you can't understand it, it shows that the 4770 isn't as good as the 9800gtx+ collectively over several benches and games.

the 9800gtx+ is faster, marginally

Yes, your card will be fine to play most modern games on medium-high. It will be able to max out most too, except for those that are overambitious and make people smug about having more money that sense for their system

I've got a 9800 GTX+ and it suits all my needs just fine. I don't play Crisis - but I've played COD MW 2 online, COD World at War, GRID, Vegas Six, Left 4Dead 2, and Dirt 2 - and never had any problems with card not handling the video.

The 9800GTX+ is rated higher than 4770 overall in gaming.

Toms Hardware gives
4770 Cumulative Rating of 971.6
9800 GTX+ Cumultaive rating of 1111.40

If you want to check out the FPS in various games
Summary Totals for all Graphix cards

1680x1050 4AA

- 1920x1200 0AA

1920x1200 4AA

1920x1200 8AA

If you have a low power PSU and don't want to upgrade the 4770 can make sense budgetarily. If power is not an issue - than 9800 GTX+ will give you better performance overall - particularlly @ higher Resolutions.

I appreciate the insight from all of you, thanks a lot! Also great link for benchmarks.
Considering wattage, I've used a couple PSU calculators, but they seem to vary most of the times. (At around 300-400 range)
I think I'll get the EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+ then, as for the GTS it's nearly $50 more that will require a new PSU.
Will my PSU be a problem in regards to having the EVGA card with my listed build?
I'm not too fond of Antec, but Corsair seems to be fairly reliable & pricey.
Thanks again

The GTS250 and 9800gtx+ are the same exact card, 550W is plenty for that card. Antec generally makes better power supplies than corsair FYI(seasonic build vs. CWT build of most corsair units).

IF you want something newer with less power requirements the Radeon 5670 is there. no power connector and it performs around about the same.

I personally have had quite a few issues with the 9800, I had one go out and it was replaced under warranty. Now, about 6 months later, the new one has gone out. Not saying that this is going to happen to you, but I'd get something different.

Your personal experience with two cards is nowhere close to a sample size,2 out of probably 1million plus G92 gpu's is basically 100% margin of error.Plus other factors could be causing your hardware death(Faulty PSU for example).

Also...thread moved to video cards/monitors.
