My 780i FTW MOBO died a few days ago. So i bought a new mobo, cpu and ram. My budget was limited, but what do you think? will this be better than my previous setup?

My previous setup: Q9650, DDR2 1066 Mhz - 8GB, 780i.

New setup: I7-920, DDR3 1600 mhz - 3GB (couldn't afford more/higher Mhz), EVGA X58 SLI LE. .. (this was the best i could get with my money)

I'll try to hit 4.20Ghz when i get my i7..

Wrong section.

You should have gone for an i7 930
The processor would be way better than the last one but the RAM can be a bottleneck 3GIG(not sure about that)
You could have gotten a 6gig and compromised with the motherboard and gone for something like Gigabyte x58a-UD3R
and of-course you will need a high end aftermarket HSF for hitting 4.2.
The corsair H50 will do.

EDIT
posted before I saw the correction to i7 930

and also when overclocking to 4.2 may I suggest a PUSH-PULL config for the Corsair H50 you will get better temps and make sure you get a D0 chip they are better overclockers and also better temperatures and lower voltages required.

Thanks, i used Push-pull in my last setup :). My i7-930 was newly added to the place i bought it from.. so it's probably the newest revision/version.

How bad do you think the bottleneck from my ram will be in gaming? :/

The i7 930s are all D0(I am only 99% sure about this)
The RAM will be a bottleneck for only really High End games(maxed out) like BFBC2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X

EDIT
Forgot GTA IV

damn.. i'll buy more later :/ .. I hope it just won't be a really bad bottleneck..

I checked and all the i 930s are of D0 stepping.

Thanks.. Can you estimate how bad the bottleneck would be :/? Will it, for instance, be like 55 fps instead of 60.. or much worse? Will i get better fps with 730 over my previous q9650?

the i7 930 is an amazing CPU.
You would notice a difference in FPS with an i7 but the RAM will be a bottleneck.
The BFBC2 is a very demanding game the recomended requirements need 2gig of ram so if you are gonna max out at full HD I am GUESSING it is not gonna be enough,

I dont know about the FPS and stuff,it would be imposible for me to guess.

Thanks for the help.. i'll just have to live with the 3GB until i can buy Another 3GB.. I just hope the difference won't be extremely huge.
