what do i do? i can figure out the rest once i can get into explorer or have it boot in safe mode or something... upon booting up it will give me the option to go into safe mode, safe with networking etc.... (you know the rest) and it wont move past the selection screen once i select one of the options. I tried using the f8 screen and all of the options on that menu result in a blank screen. I have an illegitimate xp disc that I used to get into the recovery console but I don't know what to do from here. thanks

sounds like a hard drive issue to me or could be hardware e.g ram, mobo etc.
start with a HD scan like Johnb35 mentioned and take it from there
backup your stuff asap if needed

chkdsk worked to get me into the screen where i choose the user. when i choose any user i get a blue screen:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: Beep.SYS

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your comptuer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

blablabla

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000050 (0x81000078, 0x00000000, 0xF89B92FF, 0x00000002)

*** Beep.SYS - Address F89B92FF base at F89B8000, DateStamp 48d297f5

Beginning dump of physical memory blablabla"

now what?

It seems you are infected my friend. Can you take the hard drive and slave it to another system and scan it using malwarebytes or a fully updated antivirus program?
