Protecting an LCD Monitor

I will be moving into residence this weekend, and I would like to take my 24 inch LCD monitor with me. With this move in, there will be older students that carry all my stuff up for me (woohoo laziness). My mom brought up the issue that it might not be a good idea to let some random student carry my monitor for me as it might be dropped/damaged, and from her impression, I might not even get a chance to carry it myself.

I threw away the original box a while ago, so what would be the best way to package the monitor so that it survives the move?

Well I wouldn't open up with "Guys my mom said no one touches my monitor" just saying.

I used bubble wrap around my monitor and left the base out in the open. Enough to prevent any jagged corners from cracking it. In the end its never 100% safe but this worked well for me as I actually hit someone with it when I got out of the car but not sure if it was her chest or the bubble wrap that saved it :p

Well if it was me, i'll probably get a box that's about the same size as your original box and probably put a bubble wrap around it. But whatever you choose to do you have to be careful because even with the best protection on it you can still break it.

Get some cardboard and cut it to cover the front panel. Put bubble rap over the front panel and cover it with the card board. Attach with tape. Then get a towel and rap the whole thing in that and put it in a box that is close fitting. Then stuff the gaps with the remaining bubble rap.

With your PC, i would recommend removing the GPU and CPU cooler from the mobo before moving and move them seperately in static proof film. This will prevent mobo damage during transit.

Lesson learnt, keep the boxes.

I have just searched the whole house and I cannot find a box that will fit a 24 inch monitor. I am maybe thinking get 2 box ends and pad them for the ends of the monitor, then secure them across with tape and more strips of cardboard. I think I also may have to keep the monitor in the car until people are done unloading me.

That could work too.
