Discuss overclocking, any tips, your overclocks (post screenshots), and anything that's on your mind or you need help with about OC'ing. I'll start:
This is old, but check it out

My 980X custom OC build for data processing at work...

EDIT: stable at 4.2 now but had it at 4.5 and it was unstable, hot and brought up errors in prime. If I got watercooling on it I'm sure I could push it more.

awesome! which cooler?
A random basic tower cooler from a Dell Optiplex GX280. :D It's non-standard, so I had to tape it down with some cheap duct tape. It also has to be oriented diagonally, since capacitors get in the way. Surprisingly it works a lot better than the stock Intel C2D cooler I had on it. It usually stays under 70C loading under 1.5v VCore. :) Still, even though 4.5GHz seems fast, it's one of the best OCing CPUs, it's ES, and stock is 3.33GHz, so for that particular CPU I was a bit disappointed. I think I could get higher with a better mobo, but I like my cheap P5PL2. ;)

There's a thread somewhere on http://www.xtremesystems.org/ where they do the slowest SuperPi score... it's so funny because they have to put a CPU-Z validation of their like 300MHz underclock.

I'd like to oc my 2x2gb memory so I'm here to get tips on what/where/how to make the adjustments. Thanks in advance for any input I get. I'm not going for max here, but I have seen this RAM in my research @ 6-6-6-6/1333, 7-9-8-20 1T 1600, recommends @ 7-7-7....., and 8-8-8-8 seems easily achieved.
Would C7 1600 be possible? Seems like a stretch.

I'm thinking it should be manually in the bios. The ocing software has adjustments as well as "auto" from within Windows. But I'm unfamiliar with ocing , so seems if I use the bios I'll learn something.

1) Correct me, but it appears that the process will be a 'try and see' approach, and there's not a lot of risk to damage as long as I don't give it more power than it can handle?
2) And does best performance come from a blend of MHz and timings?
3) Why is the 'voltage' 1.5~1.65(Part Number tab) different from the 'working voltage" 1.65~1.85(Features tab)?

My bios looks like this:

4) Any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks for lookin'.

I had the same problem with my 965. I tried for so long to hit 4Ghz but the most I could get stable was 3.9. I find that getting the phenom iis to stay stable 4+ is difficult. For myself at least but I am not the worlds greatest overclocker.
