nVidia Still Crooked?

I am asking about this article I saw all over the net.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-physx-ati-gpu-disable,8742.html

My question is are they still pulling that stunt? Did they get their rears handed to them for doing this? My buddy plans to upgrade soon as do myself on my GPU so I was wanting to know.
He wants to go ATI 6850 with a GTX 260 for PhysX....I just want to help screw a company that doesn't play nicely with others. If that means a 6850 then I can live with it.

Appreciate it :)

Nah not the point....I just wanted to know if they are still doing it. If they are he will crossfire instead and I will go 6850. We are not set on anything just wanted to get the facts.

That is truly a shame....while I understand the business side of it, that really doesn't help the community grow.

There is a program that enables PhysX and allows you to use recent nVidia drivers in an AMD (GFX) + nVidia (PhysX) setup, though I'm not sure if the forum rules allow further discussion on the matter.

I really don't see the problem...Nvidia owns PhysX. I would do the same thing.

Does Ford let Toyota use it's headlights? Does HP let Dell use their cases?

No company lets another company use anything of theirs unless there is a strict agreement. It really is no different than the hundreds of thousands of other companies around the world protecting their products is it?

That is fine and dandy...its the fact they pay off companies not to use other (and better) methods of PhysX like software that utilize CPU based calculations with GPU. I mean you have to buy a Nvidia card to run it so why should they care? Your still buying their GPUs to run it.

I would have thought lawsuits galore would be up...you bought the card for PhysX and it wont work with your hardware. Whats next Nvidia hates AMD so if you run a AMD chipset your Nvidia card wont work? They could very easily work a deal out with AMD but instead we are going down the same road but two different and useless ways. If they just focused on one it would be so much better for the consumers.

What are you talking about? The gtx460 is THE best bang for the buck, possibly ever.
I would also just get the 460, but I do agree that disabling PhysX for ATi cards is kinda nasty. It's logical business-wise, but just not nice..... :(

I don't see a "stunt" either.

A similar analogy was already made.
Can you put a Toyota tubocharger on a Chevy without a mod?
How dare they! :D

I personally could not care less, and I don't look for those minute details when I'm gaming.

I'm more concerned with quality of gameplay.
