Hi i have got my daughters pc that needs fixing,it runs so slow, i know it needs a fresh o/p sys installed..
In this case XP....
I get though some of the install then i get the dreaded blue screen,
it comes up with...... STOP=C0000221 UNKNOWN H/D ERROR \SYSTEMROOT\SYSTEM32\NTDLL.DLL
The pc has a NEC MS-6511 MOBO... P4 AMD ATHLON CTM...
I thought it was the h/d so i tryed it with 3 other h/drives all with the same error.I have also tryed vista, all with the same results....
ANY IDEA HOW TO GET BY THIS PROBLEM.......THANKS....

Try testing the hard drive with the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic tool. You can download the ISO off their website and burn it to a CD.

Thankyou for your response on this matter.
As i said before i have tryed 3 other drives on this machine,1 of them is a brand new Seagate 160gb h/d..every time i try i get the same message at the same time every time on all the drives.....could it be a mobo problem or a hardware prob..Just thinking out aloud..

Yes, it could be hardware related, but lets get some more info first.

Was the computer running fine, yet slow, before you started working on it?

What brand and model is the computer?

If custom, what motherboard, processor and RAM does it have?

Disconnect or remove all unneeded hardware to install XP and then try the install again. You are basically having a driver issue or possibly a cable issue. Is there another device attached to the other IDE connection on the cable?

Sounds like a compatible issue. Or it might be a power issue. Have you checked the psu?
