i have a small problem that i hope you can help me with. i've just got an IDE to USB converter to connect my HDD to the computer. my problem is that once i connect it and switch it on, the computer notices that i have connected a new device, but doesn't recognize it. i have been searching for a driver, maybe thats the problem but still with no luck in finding an appropriate driver.

has anyone maybe have the same problem and know's what to do?

Thanks.

Look in disk management to see if it is recognized in there. You may need to assign it a drive letter or it may need to be partitioned and formatted.

still no luck. it's not detecting it in Disk Management either. remember that it's not connected directly to the computer with an IDE Cable. i'm using an IDE to USB converter. so the hdd is connected to to the IDE Converter and them to a usb port so i'll then be able to see the drive as i would a usb device.

but still no luck.

So is it asking for a driver or it just doesn't see the drive? If it doesn't see the drive, then the drive is most likely bad.

Another option is to try recovery using a Linux Live CD such as Parted Magic, as it can read and write to NTFS file systems.
