Gaming mouse

Hey, I have a little HP mouse, and it is too small to fit comfortably in my hand, making gaming hard. I was wondering whether it is worth it to purchase a legitimate gaming mouse, or if that would just be a waste of money (if so, I'll just buy one that's bigger). Thanks for your input.

Personally, I don't require a lot of keys on my mouse, so I just went with a cheap Microsoft Sidewinder X3 gaming mouse instead of the ones that are offered at like $80.

Certainly depends on if you game a lot. I personally think a gaming mouse is absolutely necessary and I recommend the Logitech G500. I have some big hands and it fits great.

The G500 is nice, the MX518 is also a good starter, but it's optical not a laser.

The Saitek R.A.T 3 also looks good and is petty cheap (can get them here for $59)

Yep, I would go palm (try out ,not Steal..lol) a few at your local store and see which brand or model feels most comfortable to you .This varies with the size of your hand as well as whether you fingertip grip or palm grip the mouse when sliding it around.

most definitely, a gaming mouse can help tremendously in playing video games. I still use an MX 518, but I'm not a serious gamer....as of now ;) There are multiple models out there that are pretty good for the price.

The G5 has been discontinued I believe (along with the G15 Keyboard! :O)

it has been replaced by the G500.

I use an MX518... have had it for about 4 years or so now, love it, so comfortable. The only mouse I would replace it with is the G500, but I can't afford to at this point in time.

I wonder why :/

Both are excellent...the G500 looks very similar to the G5 i wonder what the diffrence is.

Gaming Mouses are over rated with the buttons in my opinion. I never saw the use however I do love the programs that come with them. Increased mouse sensitivity is a major attraction to me as I max out sensitivity with normal mouses (and require more)

I love my MX518 and currently its up for $22 on Newegg (buy now) I bought mine for $25 3 months ago and I love it. It is also a little larger than a normal Microsoft mouse so being as I am 6'3 its a big plus.

yeah, definitely try them out at the store. they might not have a large selection, but at least try out for size.

i find the G5 is too thin for my hand and gives me cramps during long gaming sessions. the MS sidewinder looks huge in comparison but is very comfortable.

if you're a serious gamer than invest in a laser mouse, don't even waste your time with optical. the G500 is a great mouse. i myself have owned its predecessor, the G5, for over 3 years now.. not a single complaint, fantastic mouse.

The g500 has more weights and a higher DPI, and a few more buttons I believe. I never owned a G5 so I don't know specifics. But I owned three G7s, great wireless mice, but I like the g500 soooooo much better.

I gotta be honest I can't find a single difference between my old laser mouse and my new optical. What are the considered benefits over optical to laser?

they both work essentially in the same way, however a laser mouse utilizes laser technology while an optical mouse uses LED. the laser encapsulates much higher resolution images, leading to more precise movement. also, because of the detail the laser is able to detect, laser mice generally perform very well on a wide variety of surfaces, whereas an optical mice may be confused by certain textures or colors. in a nutshell, laser mice have the ability to track movement more precisely.

I think it depends on what you play, and the type of style you have. Im an avid WoW player and raider, and pvp'r..... I macro everything. It all used to be on the keyboard, until I bought a Razer Naga, I'll never use another mouse, atleast not for WoW. Button overkill maybe but with 12 at the touch of my thumb, thats just more macro options. Its amazing all around.

...

+1. I am currently using a microsoft intellipoint, or at least I think that is what it is called. Red bottom, buttons on the sides, I love it. Friends spend lots of trying to get a cool looking mouse, I just sprayed a storm trooper stencil in glow in the dark paint and it looks awesome, better than an expensive mouse haha.

As what droogie said, am optical will go spastic if you go over colours and stuff and need to use a proper mousepad most of the time (I use a piece of paper, I know I'm cheap). Laser can go on any surface pretty much, so multi coloured mousepads work good.
