I haven't heard of a new platform coming out, maybe somebody can tune us in on that.

Just my $.02 though, if you wait to build a system for prices to drop, you'll be waiting quite sometime. New technology is always being released, if you want a build a system my advice is to build now, now is a good time.

I was also going to build a new PC, but there were some discussion in CF about new releases around January 8, so would be good if you wait till jan 10.

Intel are releasing a new archietecture called sandy bridge on jan 9 meaning new cpu and motherboard sockets however ram will still be ddr3 and gpu will still be in the same slot (pci-ex 3.0 maybe)

currently intel has 1366 and 1156 socket (the numbers are the number of contact points on the socket) the new socket will be 1155 (which is not compatible with either of the above two)

I think the main attraction to the Sandybridge chips will be that they will use less power, and therefore create less heat, and therefore will be able to overclock higher than 1366. (5 Ghz?) I'm seeing comments about locked multipliers and blck's and only 2 PCIe lanes but with more bandwith per lane and, and... yeah... I'd just wait and see what happens when sites can start posting reviews and benchmarks.

I don't get the impression that Sandybridge is the enthusiast grade chip of the 1155 platform though. That would be IvyBridge which won't be out for a year, so...

This is just my understanding though of the gossip I've read.
