Since you seem to be spending big bucks i'd say wait a week and a bit (jan 5th to be exact) for intels new platform to come out so you can have the choice of sandy bridge.

Looks good, where are you buying from?
The only things I'd change would be the PSU (For the price of the silent pro, you could get the slightly better 850W XFX Black edition or the HX850W).

EDIT: I re-read your original post, the two 850W PSUs above will cope fine with GTX580 in SLI, but not tri-SLi, and you'd be at a push even with that 1000W Coolermaster.

That was the advice given in the OT, but:

Sorry man i didnt see the ot, yeah forgot about the vat increase lol

OK so a sandy bridge build will be 2.5% more expensive than it would otherwise be, but so what, a £1500 PC would cost maybe £35 more.

It looks a solid build, and will last you at least two years before upgrading for sure:good:

2 years, are you serious? as is, 3-4 years.a year or so down the line add 12 more gigs and get another 580 for sli and that will add another 2 years, thats a good 5-6 year lifespan.

edit:if you want to sli down the road get a 1000w or above psu.

A high-quality 850W will be able to handle dual 580s.

I'm not saying this rig will only last him two years before he needs another, I'm saying for all gaming intents and purposes he'll be fine with the parts he has for the next two years, just look at the i7-920, that's over two years old now.
Yes, I agree, with upgrades every year or so, 5-6 years is a reasonable estimate. By 2016, I wouldn't be surprised if this rig was only as powerful as a mid-range or even entry level gaming computer. But whatever.

Replace 1TB hd with an ssd and your system is balanced. Otherwise, the other components will be tapping their metaphorical feet waiting for data to process.

If you cant take a 300 dollar hit, then you have little cash... consider waiting six months and buy bargains as you go.

Sounds good to me and at a good price too, but I would recommend an Antec case because their so good at cooling down your gear when under heavy heat, and their not too expensive.
