Word Document in ASCII. How do I convert to Text?

Hello,

I just recently got some instructions email to me for a project I'm working on. The file extension is .doc. It is in ASCII format apparently. Why is this and how can I read it. I have never seen this before and I need these instructions.

Also please note that I am not using MS Word to open it. I don't have the program. I am suing OpenOffice Viewer.

...I am suing OpenOffice Viewer.
I'd be suing them too if it did not work so well!

Try browsing (particularly at the end of the document) to see if the application is named - it may not be Word. If you can't read all in OpenOffice open it in Notepad and browse. You could search for words like microsoft, word, wordperfect, pdf, adobe, excel etc to cover possible formats.

Here's an example of what I'm getting.

That's not very helpful.

Did you search as I noted? It does not take long to quickly scan looking for recognizable text, especially near the end. If there is no recognizable text at all (including foreign languages) then it's definitely not Word.

There is recognizable text in between these weird codes.

Here's another example with recognizable words. I checked near the end and I cant find a file name or anything.

I can see what the problem is, it's an email, not a document that you are trying to open in OpenOffice Viewer.

If the document is a .doc and is an attachment or inline to the email, you have to save it elsewhere and then open it. If it's actually part of the email, you have to read it in your email client.

I just figured out that for some reason I can open it and read it in my Blackberry. It came as an attachment to an email. I saved it to the computer and opened it, and it came up this way. I also tried just viewing it and it still did the same thing. That doesnt solve my problem though because I need to print it.

The document is being saved as an email. Can't you download the email again to your computer and save the attachment? I can't help with the Blackberry.
