CRT? You could try degaussing. Although not intended for your purpose, it puts quite a jolt on the monitor.

It's highly unlikely that a degaussing would eliminate the noise; this is usually caused by a dying flyback transformer, a leaking capacitor or a leaking tube.

In any case, the remaining life of the monitor is likely to be very short.

Yes, but the effort of pressing a button on a long shot is inconsequential. I would also cycle power a few times in succession. Pick it up, give it a shake, blow out the insides for dust. You never know, and nothing to lose.

True...

You'll have to forgive me; in my line of work, degaussing usually involves a little more work than just pushing a button. :)

I always found that with my old piece of junk CRT (but I loved it at the time) any problem that it had or that occurred while using it was easily solved with a nice quick slap to the side or top of it.

But in short, a high pitched buzzing is normally a sign to replace the old girl. I'd be careful while continuing to use it because if it's occurred once for however long, something naturally isn't functioning properly and is no doubt due to go on you soon.

My kind of repairman. You forgot the harsh language, which is an essential component.
