I need advice on upgrading my Graphics Card

Hi everyone, i have never posted on these forums, and no very little about computers, but that's why i've come here.

I need advice.

I have about 2 PC games, simply because neither of those 2 actually work right.
And i know for a fact that no others will work either.

I was recently talking to my friend about Company of Heroes, and he said that it's really good.
So i went home and looked it up, it's £4 on Ebay, so what the hell, i bought it, well aware of what i stated above.
THEN i downloaded the demo. The demo works, just. If i can manage to sit through the opening video that does a sudden 1/2 second jump every 4 seconds, then i can turn ALL the settings, everything, down to minimum.
But then i have to play a game about WW2, starting off with the Normandy Landings, with no explosions. I have to turn all the settings and graphics down as much as they can go, just to play the game.

Even then though, when i get inot the game a bit and come to any sort of conflict in it (which as you can imagine is fairly often) it slows a way down.

Anyway. I AM SICK OF THIS. i want to play a computer game.

I am sorry, but i have no idea what sort of graphics card i have, but i will find out tomorrow, and let you know here.

It is coming up to midnight here, so i just posted this thread to see if anyone has any advice, for example, maybe it isn't a graphics card problem, then they can let me know, because i know most of you are probably American, so it your daytime.

I will find out as much as possible about my PC tomorrow and edit this message with my info.

Before that though, can anyone tell me of any GC's specifically designed for games, their price, and the rough price of a decent GC?

Also, is there anything else i should upgrade?

I have no money at the minute, but as soon as i find out what i need, i'm saving up and going all out to upgrade my PC. I WANT A PC GAME SO MUCH!

Thanks a bunch to anyone who helps.
(i'm sorry about my Company of Heroes speech at the start)

COMPUTER SPECS
--------------------------------------------

As promised, here is what i can find of my specs:

I have Windows XP, sorry, this is probably rather important - it's a laptop.
I think this is the PC forum section, but when i made this thread i planned to upgrade my PC, but it's my laptop now, sorry.

Processor 1.60GHz.
RAM 1.99GB

And i don't really understand anything from the Device Mananger, so if i can i am going to send most of it in pictures.
Here is a picture of all the things i think are important on my Device Manager:

So if there is anything specific i should 'upgrade' please let me know.

Also, i am buying from the UK, Northern Ireland more specifically. And i would be willing to spend probably around £100-150. ($160-240)

I thought i would need to upgrade my RAM by a gig or two, but my graphics card is top priority (i think)

I just want something that will make games playable on decent graphics.

THANKS

Welcome to the forums!

What graphics card you should get depends completely on your budget. It could also be the processor that's the bottleneck, though that's unlikely if this is a pre-built machine...they usually use awful GPUs.

FYI, there's a free version of that same game called "Company of Heroes: Online" out now, though I think it may still be in beta. I've been playing it for the last few days...pretty cool.

Sounds like you could use a new graphics card!

Of course you have to make sure that your CPU is decent as well. RAM and your PSU might also be the culprit here, to a lesser extent.
