firefox problem

I am new and I am having a problem with Firefox. I have the most up to date version. The problem that I am having is kind of hard to explain but here goes.

The other day I went and opened Firefox and it asks me something about which user or something like that I dont remember exactlly. But what you can pick from is default and default user. I picked default user and it came up. The problem is that when I pick that one it resets all of my perferances, and my book marks. This problem has happened before and its really starting to piss me off.

Now the question is how do I get back to the normal user that I want to be in? Ive tried going though the options screen but I could not find anything about this.

Any help would be greatly apprieciated. Thank you.

well, i dont think you'll be able to get the old profile back. next time it happens, click cancel. then go to task manager. click processes, and end firefox. load it back up and it should be fine. this happens to me quite alot. if this doesnt work, then a uninstall and reinstall firefox.

i had that too..

the problem was that it was still running in your processess via "task manager" to see it. so when you tried to reopen it, a process was still running so it wanted you to make a different account or whatever.. so i had to rebookmark my links and everything.. got frustrated cause it kept happening.. so i switched to opera when they were offering the free serials.

so next time, ctrl+alt+del.. and look for firefox in processess via the task manager and end it first.

I know I can get the old profile back because it asks me this about every 3 months and if I pick the right one it will work.

Another question about ending a process. Will I still loose it all anyway i.e. bookmarks?

And the uninstall is not an option. Next time it asks me for the profile or whatever it is supposed to be I will copy all of my book marks and either switch back to IE or find a new browser. Unless of course I can fix it for good.

Thanks for the help so far everyone.

If you unistall it and reinstall then it, I don't think you will loose your bookmarks. I believe the bookmarks will remain on your harddrive, C:\ Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and then its a case of finding the folder with the booksmarks.

"PROBLEM LOADING PAGE" and "CONNECTION TO SERVER WAS RESET"only in Firefox

I cannot get online with my Firefox. It keeps on saying "the connection to the server was reset while page was loading" and "PROBLEM LOADING PAGE" only with Firefox not IE or Chrome[/U][/U]. This all happened when imesh hijacked my browser. It also installed something called conduitengine.com as a tool bar and I cannot get it off of my Firefox. I have tried everything. Does anyone have any ideas? Please advise.

To backup bookmarks see this page.

I have never had a recurring profile request like you are getting. As others have had the same issue as you, have any tried getting an answer from Mozilla?

Have you tried the Firefox forum? The support forum does not require membership.
