New Build (first timer) looking for input
Hey guys, building a new comp for the first time. Did a decent amount of research but I'm looking for a second opinion from some of you more knowledgeable OC peeps... here are the specs:

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 912
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811119233

Mobo: MSI 870A-G55 AM3 AMD 770 SATA
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813130558

Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6950 2GB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814102914

Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16819103913

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231313

HD: Crucial SSD 64gb (Running Windows 7 64bit from)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820148357

PSU: Sunbeam PSU-H680-REV-US 680W ATX
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817709027

CD/DVD Drive: LG CD/DVD Burner w/LightScribe Support
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16827136221

So I was wondering what you guys think? This is my first time building a computer from scratch, I had to cut a few corners to stay on budget... things like "mobo" "cd/dvd drive" "SSD space" "PSU" no heatsink (using the stock one that comes with processor until I can afford an upgrade) "4Gb" (but will upgrade to full 16gb in time)

So just wondering what you guys think? comments? suggestions? I was mostly wondering about the mobo, is this suitable? it's only 99 bucks from newegg and it seems to be pretty decent, room for upgrading etc, but looking for some more knowledgeable opinions on this build. Much appreciated.

Get mb with newer chipset and better crossfire. Take a look at ASRock 870 Extreme3 or 890 boards.
You may loose your system with that cheap ps. Don't cheap out on it. Get Seasonic/Corsair/XFX/Antec/..check out the PSU guide in the PSU dept.
You'll need a hdd. WDB and Samsung F3 are the most recommended. Seagate too but make sure it's the 7200.12. <-- that SG 500gb is on promo right now for $38. :good:
Other than that looks good.
BTW, the links don't work.

Thanks for the suggestion, that ASRock 870 isn't much more, I think I'll go with it.

Also do you think I may lose my system because 680W isn't enough for the system? Or that the brand is cheap/untrusted?

^ the brand mainly. buying a cheap power supply is like bying a chinese motorcyle off brand. they will work, for a limited time, then you are just left with a pile of junk. < -- that doesnt work

So I downgraded my 64GB SSD to a 500gb 7200rpm Samsung: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181

So that I could make room in the budget for my upgraded PSU (as suggested by you guys) I dumped that sunbeam or whatever to a coolmaster (which also has more juice at 750) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171053

I've also swapped out that MSI for an 890board made by jetway? the one dude who reviewed it on newegg say's it's all good, and I don't know why but I believe the son of a bitch so I'm going with it: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153192 board looks pretty ill for the price.

What do you guys think now?

I would pick this power supply over the Sunbeam you are looking at:

Antec BP550 Plus 550 Watt Continuous Power Power Supply - $68
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=antec_power_supply-_-17-371-016-_-Product

You sure that's enough juice for my system? and it didn't say anything about being crossfire ready? I would like that crossfire option to be open. But if you think it's enough juice and can handle crossfire than I'll take it over the coolermaster based on savings *desperate to cut some of the fat here but still don't want to compromise my main components (processor and graphics card)

You're getting there. The CM GX line isn't all that good either. Can you do rebates? If so XFX has 2 650w ps's(one is modular) w/$30. rebate and XFX is a real good PS. 650w is enough to add a second 6950 with a bit of headroom left over.
I haven't seen anyone recommend Jetway. The Extreme3 is gonna be hard to beat for the quality/features.
You could save $20 with the Seagate 7200.12?

I did not see that you wanted to be able to use two video cards. Take a look at this power supply:

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650 Watt Power Supply - $90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...e=Corsair_power_supply-_-17-139-005-_-Product

Edit: I also noticed you did not have a Windows installation disk in your parts list.

Yepp, I already have a copy of Windows 7 ultimate 64bit that I'm running on my current system, which will be installed on the new rig.

And just an update on the build, the parts have been ordered and are apparently on there way to my door from Newegg. Also I made a few adjustments, and I really hope I didn't screw the pooch while doing so (cause it's too late now ;)

What's on the way:

1x ($59.99) COOLER MASTER HAF 912 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

1 x ($169.99) SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5

1 x ($83.99) MEM 4Gx2 (8GB) PATRIOT-SECTOR 5 DDR3 1333
$83.99

1 x ($249.00) CPU AMD PHENOM II X6 (6 CORE) 1100T 3.3G AM3 RT

1 x ($48.99) PSU HEC-X|COMPUCASE-POWER PRO 600W RT CROSSFIRE/SLI READY
$48.99

1 x ($89.99) MB BIOSTAR|TA870U3+ North Bridge AMD 870 South Bridge AMD SB850 2 PCI 20 16x
$89.99

1x ($59.99) Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5

I know I still skimped on the PSU... But! it's 600W Crossfire ready with 150+ reviews on newegg with vast majority being very positive.

So did I do okay? or did I make a fatal error somewhere? Rig comes in with rebates and other discounts at just under $850 Canadian dollars after taxes and shipping.

**EDIT**
I just realized that the PSU is only 10Amps though... I'm screwed aren't I? This is why I need to listen more...

Stay away from Biostar...

Never, ever, ever skimp on a PSU. It's like being born with a weak heart. Pumps the power around the system, if it's bad or overloaded it's going to pop and take out other components with it.
