In general you get more for your money if you build your own computer. So if you are completely nervous about building a computer, just don't! It's not worth the risk of you doing something wrong and wrecking a part, wasting money and time.

But then again, if you take your time and ask questions, it can be done. Do you have any computer friends that could help you? The first time I did it, I consulted the internet and had a friend just watch me put it together and that's how I learned how to do it. Now it's just second nature for me to do something like that.

It kind of all depends on what YOU want your computer to be. Alot of people get the notion that they need the latest and greatest stuff. Like for me I just wanted a computer that can run my AutoCad and Solidworks programs with the 'occasional' gaming. I'm running a HD3850 for a video card and everyone laughs at me for it, but know what, it does what I need it to do and I found it on craigslist for $25.00 USD.

One thing I'd start recommending what you do is just start comparing parts and the easiest way to do that for CPU and GPU is this website. It's not always up to date, but at least you get a ball-park idea of where the parts perform. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ Also, look at the programs you'd like to use and see what they're requirements are.

You could sell your xbox to add some extra funds, that way you can move to a superior platform :p

But in all seriousness, you could sell the xbox for some funds. And you can use your gamertag and play online in any games with games for windows live (and you don't have to pay for online on PC! as long as you have internet) like the GTA4 games.

i was thinking that but at the moment im on a mifi dongle, xbox live works great with little or no lag but on this computer i have now battelfield 2 is mostly laggy even though my ping is usually like 110 or so

could battelfield 2 be lagging because of my cpu and gpu etc or would it be the internet connection?

Your games are lagging because you have old hardware and an entry level video card, it wasn't made for gaming.

ah right so if i upgrade my system then the internet connection should be ok?

i mean like i said xbox live works fine so with an upgrade if i can still play games online with my pc then id be happy to get some extra funds via sellign my xbox

Go here and run a speedtest, this way we can see what speed you are getting.

www.speedtest.net

Then when the test completes, click on the copy forum link box and then come back here and click on paste. Basically you are just copying and pasting.

Looks like you may have some lag possibly when playing online games, which only getting a faster speed from your provider would help.

ok guys i worked out what is wrong, its not my provider its my pc

basically i dont think its lag i think its FPS slowdown as theres so much going on

i beleive this as i added more bots on battlefield 2 and got similar results as playing on an online game.

iv tried BFvitenam and its much better online although still slow which is the same if i have a large amoutn of bots in a singleplayer match, so yeh i think my computers ability to actuallty play the gameis the problem
