Wanted to here some other opinions on which is better and why. I'm a computer gamer and always will be but a few of my friends are "so sure" that console gaming is better ;D

Thought it'd help them if they heard some other opinions apart from myself :)

Thanks

Neither is better or worse IMO. They both have there advantages, and disadvantages. Most people feel consoles are better though, because they don't understand computers.

What he said. Also alot feel console gaming is better because of the price point. You cant build a computer to play Black Ops for $230 (the price of a preowned PS3) I was a console gamer for along time, the I discovered WoW lol. Then it was all down hill from there. I enjoy PC gaming more now. Even to the fact that I sold my PS3.

PC Gaming - Pros:
Power. For the same price or slightly more, PCs offer a much more realistic gaming experience.
Upgradability. Instead of forking out $400 on the latest console, a simple $150 GPU upgrade every few years should keep you playing the latest games.
Versatility. Obviously a PC can be used for so much more than just gaming.
Games are cheaper than console counterparts. Allows for modding of games. Universal and cheap peripherals.
Cons - PCs aren't as "idiot-proof", games require installation, learning curve is higher. PCs not as portable as some consoles (well, laptops)

A console is nice because you simply put in the game and off you go,But with Pc you have to install it,Download & Apply latest patches,Then adjust your settings etc.
It can be annoying especially if thers loads of patches...then you got the whole DRM & Windows live crap that you have to install in order for it to work (On some games).

But i always think Pcs will be far superior,Much better graphics & imo its easier to play games on pc with a Mouse and keyboard (For FPS) and just use a 360 controller for racing etc so you have the best of both worlds.

Games are cheaper than console counterparts.

Give it time,I would not be suprised if stores start pricing their Pc games at the same price as Consoles....i read somewhere at Xmas that this was going happen eventually.

PC grahics are always better as well imo and also I believe consoles dont have anti aliasing which is a serious con.
backwards compatibilty, kind of, on computers is better, if i want to play a game thats 20 years old my comp should still run it whereas the ps3 cant even play ps2 games anymore (although mine can).

Upgradibilty is better and pc games have a much better (and configurable) draw distance.

I'm just getting back into pc gaming atm and i'm loving it, now i just use my PS3 for folding now and sometimes a media centre.

Thanks for all the opinions, keep 'em up!

IMO, I prefer computer gaming as you have better graphics, dedicated servers, cheaper games, more hacks and a hole lot more. I also like the fact that you can Alt Tab between gaming and MSN with a computer.

i prefer PC. when people hear me say that they flip. i have my top 11 reasons:
1. dedicated servers.
2. no "sticky aim".
3. free games (I.E. crossfire, warrock, maplestory, etc.)
4. mods.
5. QUAKE!!!! lol
6. MMORPG's
7. serf the web, watch a movie, basically what fastdude said, versatility.
8. better graphics and faster speeds.
9. if you really wanted to, play 3 games like WOW and a couple other games at the same time.
10.easier, but more challenging to aim.
11. don't have to pay for online like Xbox 360
cons- top 5:
1. hackers.
2. can get expensive when first starting off, but most of the time, not really
3. viruses, crashes, etc.
4. failure of components resulting in someone trying to open it up not knowing what they're doing and then breaks something.
5. can't just make a computer. have to know alot about it and you have to know how to put it together. cant just walk into Meijer and say, "I would like to buy a nice gaming computer for around $300."

PC gaming will always be ahead of console gaming because PC has so much more raw processing power than consoles. That said, a lot of people prefer console gaming because it's cheaper and easier.

PC games pros:

-Better graphics (PC games always have the ability to run at higher settings)
-Requires more skills (smaller hit boxes and generally less automated features)
-More control inputs (keyboard vs controlleres, mouse vs joysticks)
-Freedom of controller usage (mouse, joystick, controller, racing wheel, basically whatever you want to use)
-Mods
-Games have more features (games ported from PC are usually dumbed down for consoles, thus PC games have more features, e.g. Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2 Modern Combat)
-Higher multiplayer count online (64 vs 24 for Battlefield 3)
-Free online gameplay (I know PS3 is free, but 360 isn't)

Console games pros:

-You can play with your friends (split screen)
-Consoles are cheaper than gaming PCs
-More portable
-Games don't require installation

I disagree myself. PC is superior to console in every possible way but one. Graphics/Quality/Controls/upgrades/etc you name it and the PC is superior. The only downside is we can't run 360/Wii/PS3 games........yet. Then again though PC gaming is becoming so much like console gaming it really doesn't matter anymore. The main reason that made PC so much better is dying.

For that reason I hate most "casual" gamers (consoles mainly to blame here) as they ruined the gaming market by buying games like Halo/COD/MOH each time a reskin came out. It taught the gaming companies that people are easily amused and milked for cash and they didn't have to try hard anymore on their games. Over time it became a rehash market and in the process like 80% of the great companies sold out and make stupid button mashers with no real gameplay or quality. I mean its all about graphics now and they wonder why they lose sales...sure piracy is a bit of a problem but people like myself I don't buy games anymore unless they are REALLY worth it or I get them dirt cheap.

I think PC gaming is slowly dying because it's not as profitable. PC gamers demand more. We don't just suck up games and games of COD like console players do. We require games with more depth and better game play. Furthermore people pirate PC games, further taking away profit.

Definitely computer games! Consoles are limiting in that they aren't that easily transportable. There are so many browser games online now, where you just log in from any browser on any PC. That's so much easier for me. :)

its what ever you prefer really ps3 is for laid back people xbox is for people who play it too much and PC is for people who like to change there game around :) and also play it too much (damn i really shouldn't say that on a computer forum)

They both have their positives and negatives. Depends on the game type for me mostly. The only technical reason I like consoles more is everything is already compatible, I don't have to worry about stupid crap like driver issues and unsupported hardware. Drives me nuts how many games crash and freeze because of my sound drivers and I have no alternative other than buying a dedicated sound card that I really can't afford.

Well thats sorta opinion based. What you see as better, may not be what other people see as better. Personally I'm a console gamer because I like the simplicity of it. It's just so much easier for me to put in a disc, and play. Then for me to have to worry about installing patches, making sure my drivers are up to date, dealing with blue screens, or worrying about if my PC will run it.

I can't argue with you that PC is better, because it is. Like you said it's better in every way. for me though I like to put in a game, and forget about it.

PC = Potentially better performance, less lag, better graphics
Console = Better community, more convenient, some of the greatest games

You are kidding about the community, right?

There are a hell of a lot less whiny kids playing on PC's because mum won't pay that much for a PC, even though it works out cheaper in the long run to have a PC. You also can't get clan gaming on a console, at least not even close to the way that you can on a PC, and clan gaming is a community with in a community, with thousands upon thousands of people that are always happy to help and have fun. You don't (generally) get your rage quitting, smart mouthing idiots in clan gaming because the clans don't want to tarnish their name, so get rid of them.

You don't have anything like Xfire, clan websites, amateur leagues etc on consoles either, generally you play on your own or with people you already know. The community on consoles isn't

That is the number one reason I prefer PC gaming

I said that differently than I meant to.

PC = Better community like person to person
Console = More people/certain game
