i have a Samsung F3 500 gb internal drive....The HDD light on the case lights up a bit about every 5-6 seconds....

Is this normal or is something running that shouldn't be...

If you mean just a very brief flash every few seconds, it is normal for all hard drives

Ditto previous comments. It is worth looking into further as you may have a number of useless processes doing their thing. It's surprising how much goes on when the PC is idling.

The light coming on a lot can be due to a lot of different things.

Is your OS Windows or Linux or Mac? How much RAM do you have?

If you're system is custom, are you sure the light is wired correctly for displaying HDD usage and not for something else?

Do you use a continuous backup program?

Is your AV set to scan frequently?

Is your computer showing any other unusual behavior lately? (like web searches re-directed, cant access task manager, lots of bad or unusual system and/or web pop-ups, etc....)

This week I had blips every few minutes (visible in the Performance graph) so I sat and watched the list of processes for increases coincident with the blips. It turned out to be the Java Quick Starter which I thought I had disabled. At one time I had a lot of HDD activity which I found was related to a conflict between ZoneAlarm and AVG. That resulted in both programs being ditched. If I had the activity mentioned in this thread, I would investigate if for no other reason than knowing what is going on in the PC.
