Computer Upgrade

Hey guys,

I have decided that after 4 years I need to upgrade my Processor, Motherboard and RAM.

I have been looking at the Intel core i7 2600k

with something like this motherboard

and this RAM

That's not my final choice on what I am going to buy and I am planning to use the existing parts in my PC to make up the rest (see sig).

However, I am concerned that it might not all work, i.e. will my graphics card cause a bottleneck in the system?

Some peoples opinions on this would be good :) thanks :)

Everything will work togather. If you get another 460 and a SSD, that would be a very decent PC.

90% of the time the GPU's are the bottleneck on most gaming PC's.Most games are GPU dependent and not CPU, but there are games coming out that utilize more of the CPU, which in return takes some stress off the GPU.

Ah cool. I am considering a 2nd 460 rather than just buying a single, better card.

I just want to ensure that if I go for such a high-end processor that I am going to see the full benefit of it :)

Not really in gaming, but in pretty much everything else, yes.

Edit: your Q6600 and the 2600k clocked the same, will perform equal.(Gaming)

I'm not just looking for (only) a gaming upgrade, an all round upgrade is my plan. After 4 years I think it just needs an upgrade. My CPU is no longer clocked at the speed in my sig (half the time its standard) and I want a mobo that will allow me to SLi etc... so thought i'd just go all out :) lol

these are a little less and this is a slightly better brand as asus has had support issues lately so since they are the same quality about this is considered a better buy, along with a better chipset that supports more features and all.

Thanks! I would rather go with a Gigabyte motherboard anyway... My first post items were just an idea of what I want, I haven't made the final decision yet.

I'm also looking at buying a 3rd party CPU cooler. Does anyone know any good ones to use? I'm currently using a Zalman something on my CPU and I have never had any problems, but I want something other than the stock for this i7 :)

the cooler master 212+ is probably the most popular cooler out in the market, and very effective too, and just under 30 bucks too so it's considered one of the best value too.

so what were you planning to use this stuff for? most things won't benefit from the 2600k over the 2500k i5. also overclockers can do all those exact parts in the combo for 401 and has the 212 plus for 24.99 too, so they are cheaper basically, and ebuyer normally has some good prices too. and i know overclockers.co.uk also has bundles too, not sure about ebuyer though.
