hello

i have a small business and would like to set up a database to have my clients details more easily to hand. along with the ability to have quite a bit of info on my clients as well as being able to search by due dates. i just have no clue about which ones are good and how to sort it out. it also has to be cheap or free. i realise this is difficult but as long as its not really expensive.

many thanks

If you buy any type of invoicing software, it has a database for your customers. I have my own part time computer repair business with about 50 clients so far and I use this invoicing software by NCH.

http://www.nchsoftware.com/invoice/index.html Was only $39.99 when I bought it about a year ago.

Not sure if thats what you are looking for. It allows you to print out statements for unpaid balances and much much more. I like it.

To create your own database, Microsoft Access is free and easy to use. I dont use it often, but it works for some situations.

As stated above, you can use a system such as Quicken or Quickbooks, and it will provide you with a database as well as other functions.

Access isn't free. Retail, it's about $120. With the Microsoft Suite, It's almost $500.
I would suggest either Johnb's program or an alternative invoicing program. They will already have the functions available to easy create a client database.

As mentioned not free. You can get the reader only for access for free. Just like the word free or Excel free. Its a reader only but can not create or edit.
Also Access is not easy to use if implementing all its potential and creation. About the hardest to work with. at least for me.

Use my-sql 100% free database and with combine of navicat, you no need to repeat many commands manually, just mouse clicks

its very very very likely that he has Office already installed. Its pretty ubiquitous
The OP may not even know he has Access

PS: he could probably do this well with spreadsheets, depending on the size of the business

Sorting is the problem with Excel with thousands of sorts. Access does it right now.
Time and place for Access.

I am a software programmer and was about to start on a customer/order type software which would help you keep track of your sales, customers, orders, etc.

If you'd be willing to talk with me (PM, AIM, Skype, whatever) about exactly what you're looking for, and willing to test it out throughout each phase, I'd be happy to give you a free copy of the finished app once everything is complete.

WHAT YOU GET:
FREE Software that will fit your EXACT needs

WHAT I GET:
Hopefully you will like the software and spread the word.
I will also get a new app I can sell from my website.
I will also get your help in knowing exactly what customers like you would be looking for in such a program.

If you're interested, send me a PM or post back here and I will check back later.

Thanks.
