Need new GPU for BF3

My brother's rig is an Asus desktop model number Cg5270, intel core(tm2) quad Q8300 @ 2.5 Ghz with 8Gb RAM and a geforce GT 220.

Can he get a graphics card for around $100 that would run the game smoothly enough? If so, which one? His PSU on the Asus website says the peak is 400w. He does not want to buy a new PSU on top of the GPU if possible, thanks for the feedback.

Sounds like an exercise in futility with that budget. His best bet is to save some more cash.

medium settings would be like a 560ti or 6950 that's like in the $200's range.
higher setting: 6970 or gtx570. $300's range.

Sorry but imho, BF3 is one of the s***** games that came out in terms of hardware usage. You have to spend lots of money to play the game at a nice setting. Thats just stupid, it pisses me off.

I think it is the hardest game to run from what I have seen. Frostbite 3 is a monster I guess. That's too bad, I was hoping to gun some people down online with my brother this break.

Yeah man, im really sorry but these new games that are coming out are rediculous. The companies assume people have deep pockets.

Sorry, but that argument is ridiculous. If it's too much for your computer, turn down your settings. It still looks amazing on high settings or even medium settings.

He doesn't want it on high settings, he just wants to be able to play the game with okay frame rates.

Exactly, and many budget GPUs, such as a 6850 or 6870, can do just that. Saying a game has too good of graphics is ridiculous. If I didn't want the best graphics, I'd buy an Xbox.

I think it is good that at least some developers push computers rather than just constantly re-using the same engine (unreal engine 3 comes to mind), as said you can just turn down the settings.

What resolution is he using? I can run BF3 on ultra using a 1366x768 monitor using 560 Ti. Something to consider.

He has an xbox, but he doesn't want to play it on the console. The only reason he was going to get it on the PC was so he could be able to play with me and his friends.
