Problem with network printer at work

So our network has been acting funny since Christmas.

Over the Christmas weekend, we had found out we were hit with a worm.(via email)

The following day coming into work, we were unable to print from the network printer. It seemed that the IP address for the port it was on was changed. So i had that all figured out.

Now, there are 4 computers in the office that use the computer.

We'll just say com1, com2, com3, and com4.

com1 is were the main router is located out for the internet to leak in. This is also were the network printer is hooked up too.

We always have been able to turn off com1 and that printer still prints. Its a network printer, why wouldn't it right?

Com2(my computer) has a 2nd router(wireless) and a 24port switch.
com3 and com4 are just the other computers on the network. I just want you guys to know how its set up.

Ever since that worm hit, and since i got the network printer back up and running, when com1 is now turned off, the network printer doesn't work. The printer is in no way shape or form plugged into com1. Its plugged into the router.

I know this is long but can someone help me please=(

Could you make a schematic drawing or something? Would really clarify things.

Other things to try while com1 is off:
- Ping the printer on ip
- See if it has a webinterface or something
- Reinstall printer on computers

How is the printer added to the network and how do the computers gain access to the printer?

Are you in a Workgroup or are you in a Domain setup with a centralized server - client setup?

Do you have a server setup as a Print Server? Or, are you using an embedded print server on the printer itself, that is if there is one included with the printer.
