Are these normal tempertures?

I just installed speedfan, and got the following temperatures.

IDLE: 39/40C
Regular tasks: 47/48C
100% CPU: 54C, Then the speed speeds up, and lowers it to 48C.

Can you all just let me know if these temperatures are normal? This computer has a Pentium4 2.8Ghz CPU.

Thank you!

They could be a little cooler, but nothing to be worried about. You could consider an aftermarket CPU cooler or to reapply the thermal paste.

I have reapplied the thermal paste 3 times. The temperatures remained the same all three times. So, do you think these are normal temps?

Like I said, nothing to be worried about.

When you reapplied it, did you remove the old thermal paste? And what kind are you using?

Yeah, those are fine, the P4's run a little hotter.
Put some good thermal paste on, what kinda you have on?

I have used the artic silver thermal paste. It is not a Prescott..And I'm forced to use stock cooling, as it is an HP motherboard..

Then yeah, not much more you can do about your temps, other than getting a new case with good airflow/cable management.

I just found out it actually is a Prescott.. Does that make any difference? Also, What tells the fan to speed up? The processor or the motherboard, Or the fan itself?

^just means that its the newest of the P4.
You sure the heatsink is all the way on the proc?
You shouldn't have that high of a temp on a stock clocked cpu, unless its in prime95 load...

When I use prime 95, it gets up to 54C, then the fan highers it speed, and lowers it to 48C. During regular use, the CPU gets to 48C..Average

Yes it's normal, and Pentium 4 runs slightly hotter then CPU's in its class, so theres nothing to be worried about, but if you like, you can just buy a 15-30$ dollar CPU cooler and that will keep temps down.
