Having a problem with internet connection

My internet has been trustworthy and unchanged for probably ten years now. It is starting to have problems though. Around every 5-10 minutes it will disconnect for 10 seconds to an hour. I cannot have this happening as the only thing I use the internet for is gaming and getting disconnected every couple minutes kicks me out of games. Any ideas what might be up?

Are you running directly from a modem or through a router? If you are running a router, directly connect from the modem. If it still disconnects, your modem might be bad. If it's fine, then your router is bad.

I tried plugging my internet directly into my modem but it just couldn't connect to the internet at all when I did that. I don't know much about networks.

You will need to do an ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew commands after disconnecting from router and connecting directly to modem.

You also need to reboot the modem before it will connect. So the best action is to shit down the computer, unplug the modem, connect the modem to the computer, boot the modem up, and then turn your computer back on.

I got it set up without the wifi router, played fine for longer than usual. Then internet disconnected as per usual.

Then its either a modem or isp issue. Contact your provider and have them do a line test, they can determine if its a modem or line issue.
