I am trying to create a network server by clustering 2 older computers that have the same specs. I need to know how to cluster 2 computers. Can anyone help! I heard about Linux Ubuntu Beowulf and was wondering if it is as good as all that. Should I try Linux, go with something else or what? What is your idea. As always thanks for the reply.

People always want to cluster older hardware to get some decent performance out of 2 or more older pc's. They usually expect to run normal programs on them just like you would with 1 computer.

Just wondering what you're planning to do? Because the above scenario isn't going to work.

Beowulf for example uses specialized software to do share workload among computers. But you can't just run microsoft word on a cluster like that. You can make it do complex mathematical calculations (for example).

I was going to cluster two dell computers and make them a file server, but you say Beowulf isn't good for that. Can you recommend a Network Operating system. =)
